The latest entry in the CRYSTAL CHRONICLES series hit stores a week ago. The game tells the story of a young hero forced to venture into the outside world for the first time in search of a cure for a local girl afflicted with a mysterious illness known as “crystal sickness”. Thing is, outside our hero´s secluded village, crystals are ancient history, and it soon becomes clear something fishy´s going on! As we mentioned last month, the thing that really sets this game apart is the fact that it supports co-op play between Nintendo DS and Wii users - a bona fide world first! The Games for Windows edition of SQUARE ENIX´s newest epic came out a fortnight ago boasting polished graphics, improved animations, a tweaked battle system and faster gameplay. For those who missed our coverage of the Xbox 360 version, the game is set in a world dominated by ancient artefacts called Remnants that grant incredible power...which explains why mankind´s been fighting over them for 1000 years. Needless to say, things are about to change! If you´ve yet to do so, download the demo along with the handy benchmark tool, and fire them up. Once you´ve done that, order the full game and then declare you allegiance by becoming a fan on Facebook!

Tri-Ace´s ass-kicking, breastplate-busting, cold weather-defying battle maiden Lenneth is back, and this time she´s...the villain, at least as far as an embittered young soldier named Wylfred is concerned. Said immortal warrioress recruited his father as an Einherjar, you see, and he´s hell-bent on taking revenge. For those not in the know, Einherjar are warriors chosen by Valkyries as allies - a great honour which unfortunately requires you to be dead, hence Wylfred´s grievance. As mentioned last month, the game represents a more strategic take on the classic VALKYRIE PROFILE formula, meaning that success will take brains as well as brawn. Good luck!

On March 4th, journalists from around Europe congregated in Greenwich, home of the world-famous Royal Observatory, for an exclusive viewing of the new STAR OCEAN, hosted by producer Yoshinori Yamagishi. All agreed that the location´s historic links to astronomy and navigation made it the perfect place to unveil this epic tale of Man´s first forays into space. Wii owners should look out for CRYSTAL DEFENDERS R1 on the Wii Shop Channel later this month. It´s a WiiWare “defence simulation” game set in the FINAL FANTASY universe. In case you´re unfamiliar with the defence simulation genre (we were!), the game works something like this: you have to position your forces to defend a set route in an attempt to prevent wave after wave of dastardly enemies from reaching your precious crystals. Simple but surprisingly addictive!
